BioCup Background
BioCup paper cups are produced in an environmentally responsible way. Unlike traditional paper cups that use a petroleum-based plastic lining, BioCups are lined with a bioplastic lining (PLA) derived from corn starch. The production of PLA emits fewer greenhouse gas emissions when compared to conventional plastic production. The paper used to produce BioCups is sourced from managed plantations and all emissions associated with the production and distribution of our products is offset through the purchase of carbon credits. What is Bioplastic?
Bioplastics are plastics derived from renewable sources, such as plant starch. Some, but not all, bioplastics are designed to biodegrade. The production and use of bioplastics is generally regarded as a more sustainable activity when compared with plastic production from petroleum, because it relies less on fossil fuel as a carbon source and also introduces fewer, net-new greenhouse emissions if it biodegrades. They significantly reduce hazardous waste caused by oil-derived plastics, which remain solid for hundreds of years.
