Plastic Bans

Plastic bans continue to roll out across Australia, with each state being responsible for their own rules. A myriad of state government and privately owned websites are available to address plastic bans, all presenting what they understand the legislation in each state to mean in varying non-standardised formats. This has led to a lot of confusion regarding which food packaging you can, and cannot legally use in each state. Certainly, most of the information is somewhat open to interpretation and doesn't cover all disposable plastic packaging types, rather handling many packaging types by inference only.  We've heard rumours that this will eventually be rolled up as a federal initiative with all states having the same rules. However, to date, this remains a rumour.

Our Product Ban Compliance Indicators

To further muddy the waters, each state continues to roll out time-limited exemptions to their legislation.  In an attempt to clarify what consumers can, and cannot purchase in their states, we've added Ban Compliance indicators for each product which indicate our interpretation of the various ambiguous information sources available. Note that all ban-related information on our site represents our best effort to assess the available information. However, please note that you are responsible to perform your own due diligence when purchasing products that have ban-potential in your state.

Each of our products has an icon similar to the image below at the bottom of the product description text:

Simply check to see if your state has a tick (ok to purchase) or a cross (banned in your state) when adding products to your cart. The majority of products will be available to you regardless of which state you're in, but it's good to check.

Our Product Ban Compliance Filters

We have also installed product ban compliance filters which can be accessed from any category page. Simply click your state in the Ban Compliant filter (eg. VIC) and the category will only show products that are available for purchase in your state.

Ban Exemptions

Remember that ongoing exemption alterations and roll-outs in each state can make things very difficult as exemptions are rolled out but never announced, and are often buried somewhere inside state government websites that deal with plastic bans. WF Plastic will always work in your best interests, and will let you know if we believe that you're trying to purchase an item that has absolutely been banned in your state.
